Camper Care Care at Camp Horizons
At Camp Horizons, nothing matters more than the health, safety, and well-being of our campers and staff. We’ve built our entire camp culture around creating an environment where children feel physically safe, emotionally supported, and ready to thrive.
As an American Camp Association accredited camp, we voluntarily hold ourselves to the highest standards — meeting nearly 300 guidelines that cover everything from program safety to staff training. It’s our way of ensuring families can trust the quality and care their child will receive here.

meals at camp horizons
Food is a big part of camp life, and our dining team takes pride in serving meals that are both kid-friendly and healthy. Every meal includes a hot entrée with sides, plus alternatives such as salads and sandwiches at lunch and dinner, and a cereal bar at breakfast. Fresh fruit is always available during meals and throughout the day, and campers enjoy snacks in the afternoon and during evening programs.
Campers eat with their cabin groups, which makes mealtime a fun, community experience. They also take part in cleanup, helping to build teamwork and responsibility. (Note: hot beverages such as tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are not served to campers.)
We are proud to accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets, as well as restrictions related to fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, and sesame. Camp Horizons is a nut-aware camp.
If your child has a specific food allergy or dietary need not listed, please call us to discuss details. We’ll work with you to accommodate their requirements. Families who prefer to supplement their camper’s meals with additional food may coordinate directly with our Dining Services Director.
exceptional staffs, fully trained
Our staff come to Horizons from across the region and around the world, carefully selected through a rigorous application and interview process. Before camp begins, every team member participates in an intensive, 7-day, 90-hour training program. This training prepares them not only in activity safety and camp policies, but also in essential skills such as camper development, risk management, handling homesickness, and preventing bullying. We make sure our staff are ready to guide, teach, and support each camper every step of the way.

professional medical care
Our Camper Care Center is overseen by at least two certified medical professionals (RN, EMT, or equivalent) who are available around the clock. Their focus is on prevention first, but they are fully prepared to respond to a wide range of medical needs if they arise. The Care Center is a comfortable, air-conditioned space with beds for rest, a telephone for parent communication, and all the essentials to keep campers safe and healthy. Should further care be needed, Rockingham Memorial Hospital is just 20 minutes away.
