Over 40 Years of Traditions

Camp Horizons has been a place where kids come to grow, explore, and discover their best selves. Tucked away in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, this vibrant camp community is built on connection, adventure, and the belief that summer camp can be truly transformative.

Since 1983, thousands of campers have called Camp Horizons their summer home. With exceptional staff, thoughtfully designed programs, and a strong sense of community, Horizons remains a place where kids thrive and eagerly return year after year.

What Camp Horizons Is All About

Camp Horizons is a place where kids can be themselves, try new things, and grow in a community built on fun, friendship, and respect. It’s a welcoming space where campers from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, play, and support one another.

Here, personal growth happens naturally, whether it’s building confidence on the ropes course, making a new friend in the cabin, or simply enjoying the freedom to explore.

We believe in the power of camp to shape young lives and maybe even the world by sparking joy, encouraging connection, and spreading kindness.

Meet "Otis"

Boof! Boof! Hello there, my two-legged friends! My name is Otis, and I’m the official Camp Horizons dog—some even call me the camp mascot! I’ve been lucky to call this place home since 2017, when I was just a pup. Since then, I’ve met hundreds (maybe thousands!) of campers, staff, and families who make camp such a special place.

My favorite thing to do is wander through camp, check on what all the kids are up to, and soak up as many head scratches and belly rubs as I can get. I love food—any food I can sneak from the kitchen—but chicken is definitely my favorite! Being a Labradoodle makes me friendly and gentle-natured, and those traits helped me become a trained therapy dog.

You’ll often find me tagging along on Cabin Night or Village Night, running across the fields, or just greeting everyone on check-in day (which is the best day ever—so many new friends all at once!). I love camp almost as much as I love treats, and I can’t wait to wag my tail and welcome you this summer!
